Pinay Pictures is a New York based production company owned by award-winning Filipina director & producer, Beth Aala.
Beth has vast experience in all aspects of production including editing, camera work & photography. She also has a background in oil, acrylic & watercolor painting, as well as printmaking.
Beth is a three-time Emmy award-winning producer & recipient of a Peabody Award for her documentary work at HBO. Beth’s latest feature documentary, Uncharted had its World Premiere at Tribeca Festival 2023 collaborating with global icon, Alicia Keys and her organization She is the Music and Everywoman Studios. The film also showcased at Sheffield Docs, DXDocs and Nashville Film Festival where it was nominated Best Music Documentary. Also released in October 2023 at the Newport Beach Film Festival is This is Brighton. Nearly six years in the making, this vérité coming of age film is about skateboarding champion and first ever USA Skateboarding Olympian Brighton Zeuner.
Other credits include feature documentary, Rancher, Farmer, Fishermanwhich she co-directed & produced for Discovery, and premiered at Sundance in 2017. She also directed & produced Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon (TIFF 2014) with comedian, Mike Myers. It won the Hollywood Film Award for Best Documentary & was nominated for the 2014 News & Documentary Emmy Awards.
Prior to her her documentary work, Beth worked as an independent producer on a multitude of MTV shows including "Total Request Live" & the annual "Video Music Awards," working with big musical acts such as Beyoncé, Missy Elliott, Dave Grohl, Jay Z, Alicia Keys, Outkast, Trent Reznor, Justin Timberlake & U2. She also directed & produced one of the premiere episodes of the hit News & Doc series, "Made."
Beth is an honored recipient of the 2024 Chicken and Egg Artist award, a two-time awardee of the NYSCA Artist Grant, a Creative Capital and Firelight Media grant finalist, a proud member of Chicken and Egg’s AlumNest, A-Doc, Brown Girls Doc Mafia, Filipinx Filmmakers and is a Wyncote Fellow. She has proudly mentored up and coming filmmakers at Brown Girls Doc Mafia and Ghetto Film School and has guest lectured at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. Her work has been featured on HBO, PBS, Netflix, MTV, Discovery, A&E, and Paramount+. Beth resides in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and two kids.
In her free time (ha!) she makes woodblock prints, watercolor paintings, cooks, catches live music whenever she can, and takes way too many photos of her kids, birds & her travels around the world.
